The only Lightship Flying in Asia Pacific, excluding Australia

Singapore, 4 August 2000 -- StarHub, Singapore’s latest info-communications provider, is proud to present Singapore’s first-ever Airship – the StarHub Lightship. The StarHub Lightship was officially unveiled at a media preview this morning after its maiden flight from Seletar Airbase to Marina City Park. StarHub is also currently training the first-ever Singaporean pilot to fly the StarHub Lightship.

This exciting new attraction will not only enhance and add a new dimension to the Singapore skyline during the day, it will also light up the evening sky with its unique capability to ‘glow’ in the night. Measuring 39 metres long and 14 metres high, with a top speed of 55 mph, StarHub’s Lightship can climb as high as 10,000 feet. Built in Portland, Oregon in the USA, it took 16 licensed aviation engineers one week to construct in Singapore.

"The StarHub Lightship is symbolic of our philosophy to inspire exciting new initiatives and to constantly challenge the norms. Apart from bringing Singaporeans closer to something they have only seen on TV programmes, the StarHub Lightship is also an unique branding platform for the company, as it is highly visible and mobile, creating further opportunities to spread the StarHub name. We are proud to present yet another first in Singapore, to the public on Singapore’s 35th National Day," said Mr Terry Clontz, President & Chief Executive Officer of StarHub.

The StarHub Lightship will be showcased during the National Day Celebrations at The Padang and Marina City Park. On 9 August, guests at the official opening ceremony of the National Day Carnival @ The Bay at the Marina City Park will have the opportunity to admire the StarHub Lightship performing spectacular aerial maneuvers. In the evening, the Lightship will make a second appearance, fully lit from within, at the National Day Parade over The Padang.

Apart from its appearances on 9 August, the StarHub Lightship will also be flying at the National Day Carnival @ The Bay from 9 – 12 August. A StarHub Lightship art competition, organised in conjuction with the Children's Art Society with the theme "My StarHub Lightship, My Dreams", will be held on 9 and 12 August for children below the age of 12 with attractive StarHub vouchers to be won.

Marketing and promotional activities involving the Lightship have also been planned. Exclusive StarHub Lightship premiums such as notepads, mousepads, activity books, T-shirts, etc will be given out to customers with every purchase of StarHub products and services.
